Ashley Tisdale falls a little bit in love with Austin Butler sitting on the steps of their apartment building in this new still from Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure.

Austin, 20, who plays Sharpay’s love interest in the movie tells us that although they worked together before, this flick was a whole new ballpark.

“The first time we worked together we weren’t as close as we were now so it’s more fun working on this one. I say that because most of our scenes are together, where before we had almost none together. It’s [a bit] weird now because before I was playing her cousin and now I’m playing her love interest. In the intimate scenes where we’re closer and stuff is where it gets a little awkward, because she’s like my sister. But those are the only things,” Austin tells us.

So what did they do to bond off-set? Workouts! “She would knock on my door at 5AM and drag me down to the hotel gym. We did that everyday, too.”

This interview is from April, but I some how missed it so posting it now. Austin talks about “Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure” and his ideal girl.

J-14: Tell us about your character.
Austin Butler: My character is a film student who meets Sharpay and teaches her the ins and outs of living in the big city of New York. He helps her pursue her dream of becoming a Broadway star.

J-14: How did your acting career start?
Austin: I got into doing extra work when I was about 11, and then through that I got comfortable being on set. I met my manager through one of the actresses on a show I did. She then got me into acting classes and got me an agent.

J-14: What kind of movies would you like to make in the future?
Austin: I would like to take on challenging characters that I can really sink my teeth into. That, and a really cool action movie!

J-14: Can you describe your ideal girl?
Austin: [She] would be a girl who is easy to talk to and has a great sense of humor. I like to watch shows like The Office with girls and test their sense of humor.

J-14: Could you ever date a girl like Sharpay?
Austin: Sharpay is a really honest girl, she just says what she wants. Sometimes she needs to be more censored, but I think she’s a really sweet girl on the inside. I could see dating a girl like that, but Sharpay is a little bossy for my taste.

Leading up to the premiere of Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure on May 22 on Disney Channel, JJJ will be releasing new stills with new quotes from the talented cast. First up — Austin Butler!

While on the set in Toronto last year, Austin dished to us about the dogs multiple personalities. “There is one scene where I have to usher Sharpay out of the apartment and I go and grab her arm and she’s holding this little dog. There are two dogs; Howie – he’s really innocent you can see it in his eyes that he just wants to play around. He’s the ADD dog. Then there’s the other one, Herbie who has a little bit behind his eyes that’s kind of scary.”

He continued, “I never realized that thing behind his eyes until this day. When I start to usher her out, he started growling. We’re trying to finish the scene while he’s growling and we couldn’t keep straight faces. I thought ‘Ok that’s kind of weird.’ In the second and third time, he was actually trying to attack me. I couldn’t even get close to her after that. As soon as he saw me from then on, he was barking and biting. But we found out that as long as I am feeding him, he’s okay.”

Austin on why Peyton is a good guy for Sharpay: “He grounds her. He sees through this exterior shell that she has. There’s this air about Sharpay that anyone can see and on the inside, she’s very honest and a little naive. He definitely sees through that and even when she is acting crazy, he can get to the real her.”
